The group has donated all net proceeds to the renovation of the Spanish Ballroom and the Bumper Car Pavilion, and to help continue Park programs. All of the Sunday afternoon waltz dances are held at Glen Echo Park, 7300 MacArthur Blvd., Glen Echo, MD 20812 in the Spanish Ballroom or occasionally in the Bumper Car Pavilion (BCP).
Upcoming Social Waltz Dance Classes, Glen Echo Park
Fast-Waltz Survival Workshop
Want to survive the fast-tempo Viennese dances at Waltz Time’s “Evening with Strauss” Ball but don’t want to have to delve deeply into formal Ballroom-Viennese technique? Join us at our Fast-Waltz Survival Workshop on Saturday, April 20, 2:00-4:00 pm. This workshop is targeted at folk waltzers and beginner dancers planning to attend the “Evening With Strauss” Ball the following weekend. Experienced folk waltz teachers Tony Treston and Katherine Anderson will introduce you to a hybrid waltz style designed to get you elegantly through quick-paced waltzes and bidirectional turns. Approximately 75 minutes of instruction followed by supervised practice. Prepare for the Ball with this specially-priced and practical workshop ($10 / $5 full time students). More information is available at Glen Echo Park Events Calendar (don’t search in the “Dance Class" section).
Beginner/Intermediate Waltz
Offered in May, this series is for those dancers who may want to review what you learned in a prior Beg/Int series, wish to make up a class you might have missed, or to bring your friends to learn waltz basics. That series runs every Tuesday in May (7, 14, 21, and 28) from 7:00 to 8:15 pm. Advance registration is at https://reg126.imperisoft.com/glenechopark/ProgramDetail/3531373836/Registration.aspx
DESCRIPTION FOR MAY SERIES: This 4-class series is for both beginners and dancers with some folk waltz experience. After introducing/reviewing basics, we focus on partnering skills for leads and follows as well as expanding your repertoire. Learn skills that make waltzing in a social dance setting more fun! No partner required but encouraged to enable ample practice opportunity. All can lead; all can follow. Each class includes 1 hour instruction plus 15 mins practice. Drop-ins welcome. 4 sessions.
